Hello everyone, my name is Alex. As the most helpful of my mother’s two sons I have agreed to review some movies for her. My goal is to provide different perspectives about some of the products and movies featured on this website. My first review is of the 3D Blu-ray film “Immortals” from 20th Century Fox.
Immortals is the story of the Theseus (Henry Cavill) and his journey from peasant to the hero of his people. The ruthless King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has invaded Theseus’ land, declared war on all of humanity, and searches for the legendary weapon, the Epirus bow. Theseus, along with the Oracle Phaedra (Freida Pinto), and the ex-thief Stavros (Stephen Dorff) struggle to find a way to stop the power hungry King Hyperion from unleashing the titans locked away eons ago by the Gods.
I don’t want to give away too much of the story but the director Tarsem Singh has created an amazing work of art here. The amount of pure creativity in this movie is amazing. Although the overall visual theme of “Immortals” is similar to that of the film “300”, the art direction is completely different than anything I have ever seen. The set pieces, even the computer generated, are some of the most impressive I have seen in a long time.
The acting performances from both Mickey Rourke and Henry Cavill are top notch. Rourke has created a truly frightening villain, one with no remorse and absolutely twisted morals.
The 3D effects in this movie are also top notch, which is really impressive when you realize they used 3D conversion to create it. This movie was not filmed in 3D but it is on par or better than most movies I have seen that were shot in 3D such as “Avatar”.
In summary, “Immortals” has a great cast, interesting story, amazing visuals in surprisingly good 3D, and solid action sequences. Although I would not recommend it for children (it is Rated R), as it is very graphically violent, I would strongly recommend it for fans of both action and fantasy genres.

We watched this in 3D at the theater and weren’t prepared for the violent gore, prevalent through the whole movie. 😛 I wanted the fast forward/mute option a few times, LOL
I mentioned your comment to my son and he agreed, it was violent. I guess the R rating was well deserved and now I know why he said I wouldn’t like it 🙂
Thanks for the comment!
Connie
Sounds interesting, we will check this out on netflix.
I haven’t seen it but I guess it’s really violent. Just a heads up.
Thanks!
