I couldn’t be more excited about Lionsgate’s upcoming movie, “The Hunger Games.”  I’ve just finished the audiobook and I’m hooked.  What a phenomenal story and looking at the photo stills and trailers it looks like they’ve stayed true to Suzanne Collins‘ book.  I’ll be seeing this one in the theatre for sure!

Within the shambles of what once was North America, Panem, the evil Capitol of the nation, forces every one of its 12 districts to deliver a pair of teens to compete in the Hunger Games. The pair must consist of one boy as well as one girl, chosen by random drawing. The Hunger Games are a horrific yearly physical penalty for a previous uprising as well as an continual government bullying strategy to keep their districts in order. The Games are televised nationally and the district residents are required to watch the event in which “Tributes” must fight against each other until one teen is the lone survivor.

Among the Tributes are a small group of highly-trained teens who’ve been preparing for the Games their entire life. But district 12 has sent Katniss, a girl with sharp instincts and a skill in archery, who volunteered when her little sister was chosen in the drawing. She’s mentored by a former Games victor, Haymitch Abernathy, who’s now a drunken shell of a man. To return home, she’ll need to be the lone survivor, but will she be able to make the impossible choices required in the ring?

THE HUNGER GAMES  releases nationwide by Lionsgate on March 23, 2012.
