DownEast Basics has recently opened several stores in Washington. They’re a Utah-based company that makes affordable and modest clothing for girls and women. I recently visited their new location at Southcenter Mall in Tukwila, WA (just south of Seattle), to check out their line and I have to say I’m impressed! Before I tell you more about the clothing and the company, here’s a look at the fashions (click on any photo for a larger view).
- Pair this trendy sweater with chic belt with a pencil skirt and what a fabulous work or dinner outfit!
- Classic basic perfect for spring or summer and even into fall
- Trendy sweater over casual basic with splash of shine in this sequin bag. Casual chic!
- Their everyday prices are so affordable but their sale prices are phenomenal
- Scarves in so many colors, fabrics, patterns, and styles
- An updated classic jacket over a very short dress in fabulous 3-season colors

- There were plenty of 2-piece suits avilable, but the print on this one and the unique sewn in design caught my eye on this one. Their suits are lined and gorgeous!
- I love this long-sleeved shirtwaist dress – the print is so me. Granted, I’m 50, but it was nice to see clothes for every age group available
- Popular and fashionable colors in all their mix-n-match basic pieces
- I love the color story on these! Teal, lime with accents of white and black. Love!
- Accessories weren’t overflowing, but the pieces available looked fabulous with te fashions
- This nod to natical is a crisp navy and white skirt with white lining – loved it!
- I love the color of this trendy top with puffed sleeves and v-neck collar details – so sweet with this fabulous jeans!
- How chic is that teal sweater with flower belt in the back?!? And I love the casual, yet trendy cardigan with the fabulous accessories.
- This dress is gorgeous on – such a classic but in and updated and soft fabric. Trust me!
- Fashionable even from the back! I love these looks.
- Another dress that’s adorable on, but not on the hanger. The color is fabulous
- Basic pieces to extend your wardrobe
- Fashion belts and accessories following all the current trends
The DownEast Basics store itself is bright and cheery with plenty of space to walk around and check out the goods. There are a few dark corners that could use a little bit better lighting and those are in the accessory and kids’ area. I almost missed that they carry girls’ clothing, it’s a tiny section with one small sign, and since they carry XXS, the sizing didn’t seem so different at first glance. But once I realized they carried girls, I stopped to check them out and although the selection was small, the quality was amazing and the price point especially affordable.
The women’s section is extensive – jeans, dresses, sweaters, tees, bathing suits, cover-ups, coats, jackets, sleepwear, accessories, and more. Most of the colors were pastel earth tones and so many of the pieces easily mixed-and-matched. While they’re known as a modest clothing store, I didn’t find the styles dowdy at all. There were so many options and so many pieces that are on trend right now, that I think just about anyone could shop there and come out looking fabulous.
I did make a few purchases for my son’s girlfriend and I’m happy to say that their clothing is true to size and the quality is remarkable. Their tees and tops can be layered, but what’s phenomenal is that they don’t have to be. These are tops that can be worn on their own without the typical see-through issues most other tops on the market suffer from. The fabric has phenomenal stretch and they fit beautifully.
My pictures don’t do the clothes justice. Checkout their online site and see for yourself what a phenomenal value in clothing they offer. My one and only complaint is they don’t carry plus size women’s clothing and yes, I’m plus size.
Special thanks to the folks at DownEast Basics at Southcenter Mall for their hospitality and for introducing me to their amazing products and welcome to Washington!
