Stephanie Plum‘s a Jersey girl with plenty of attitude, even if she’s been unemployed for the last half year and just lost her own vehicle to a debt collector. She’s desperate for some quick cash, so she turns to what she thinks is her last resort: convincing her sleazy cousin to hire her as a recovery agent for his bail bonding company.
Granted, she doesn’t own a set of handcuffs and her chosen weapon is a can of pepper spray, but this doesn’t stop Stephanie. In fact, she has her sights set on locating and bringing in Vinny’s #1 bail-jumper: Joe Morelli, an ex-vice cop who’s now a murder suspect. Unfortunately, he’s the same the same Joe Morelli who was irresistibly sexy back in high school and the one who seduced her and then dumped her. Catching Morelli could be monetarily and emotionally rewarding, but unfortunately Stephanie comes to realize that the case that’s been made against him isn’t so airtight.
