I am so honored to be one of 20 bloggers invited from around the country to attend a Disney/DreamWorks press junket this weekend in NYC.  I’m a little worried about the amount of travel I’ll be doing since it’s hard on this old lady, but I’m excited to be participating.  Here’s what I’ll be sharing with you this weekend:

  • MARY POPPINS on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre (214 W 42nd St, New York, NY / Reservation #1097375-3 & 1097375-4) – I’ve seen several shows here in the past and the theater is phenomenal.
  • Red Carpet Premiere of WAR HORSE & Premiere Party at Avery Fisher Hall (I hope to be able to share red carpet photos with you). Here are some of my previous posts about the movie:  DreamWorks “War Horse” Movie Trailer and Photos Released and Music from the Upcoming Movies War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin.
  • Tour of the New Amsterdam Theatre (home of MARY POPPINS on Broadway) – I’m so excited to get to see  behind-the-scenes of this historic theater.  I really hope they allow cameras on the tour!
  • Roundtable interview with Academy Award nominee Emily Watson (“Rose Narracott” in WAR HORSE).  She starred in one of my favorite books translated beautifully to film –  Angela’s Ashes.  She played Angela.  An amazing performance.
  • Interview with Steve Fickinger, VP of Creative Development and Licensing regarding MARY POPPINS and his new project, NEWSIES on Broadway! Newsies is one of my all-time favorite Disney movies so I can’t wait to hear more about this!
  •  Disney Park Avenue Screening Room (500 Park Ave @ 59th St) Tangled Ever After and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST 3D – I will cry at this movie…better bring tissues.  I took my boys to see this when they were little.  I miss my babies…darn them for growing up!  I am looking forward to Tangled Ever After; it’s the story of what happened after Tangled (just a short?  I wanted another full-length movie!).

Six hours of flying plus activities on both travel days – I hope I survive the trip!  I leave Saturday and return Monday and hope to be able to get online to share with you.  Thanks so much for coming on this journey with me!

War Horse (the movie) Synopsis

DreamWorks Pictures’ “War Horse,” director Steven Spielberg’s epic adventure, is a tale of loyalty, hope and tenacity set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War. “War Horse” begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets—British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter—before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land.

The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse—an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure. “War Horse” is one of the great stories of friendship and war— a successful book, it was turned into a hugely successful international theatrical hit that is currently on Broadway. It now comes to screen in an epic adaptation by one of the great directors in film history.
