The excitement is building for the world-premier of Disney/Pixar’s “Cars 2” happening in Los Angeles Saturday, June 18, 2011. If you won’t be there, Disney has two ways you can still be a part of the fun.
Cars 2 Agents on a Mission Tour
The Cars 2 “Agents on a Mission” tour has been well received and families across the country have enjoyed seeing the full-size replicas of the “stars” of Cars 2. The vehicles, which took 6-10 days to sculpt each body (approximately 1000-1600 human hours) were carved from foam, made into a fiberglass mold, and then the final bodies were produced from the molds. They’re built on Model-T replica frames and the electric motors provide enough power to theoretically climb a telephone pole (but they can only travel at up to 10 miles per hour). With an electric motor they don’t produce sound, so Disney/Pixar added engine and exhaust sounds which are recreated through a 200-watt sound system under the hoods.

The vehicle are the largest radio-controlled replicas ever built; Mater weighs a little over 2,700 pounds, Finn McMissile weighs about 1,760 lbs, and Lightning McQueen weighs about 2,250 lbs. State Farm sponsored the tour and Goodyear provided the tires and trucks and transported the vehicles throughout the U.S. and Canada. In addition to checking out the autos, visitors can participate in “Cars 2”-themed activities, games and participated in giveaways.

- Los Angeles, CA – the cars are scheduled to be shown on the red-carpet World Premier on Saturday, June 18
