ProFlowers is an online floral website where you can order flowers for nationwide flower delivery.  They have arrangements appropriate for Easter, Mother’s Day, and any other occasions. ProFlowers offers more than cut flowers and plants.  They also offer gourmet food gifts like brownie pops, Mrs. Field’s Cookies, Sherrie’s Berries, and more.  Something for every mom on your gift list.

The folks at ProFlowers very kindly offered to send me flowers so I could check out their service.  Unfortunately, I stopped buying cut flowers years ago.  I hated that they died within a week or two, so I asked the hubby to purchase plants if he felt the need to give me flowers.  My yard is blooming with azaleas, tulips, daffodils, and other flowers he’s given me over the years.

I was glad I’d made that decision against cut flowers when I learned earlier this year that many of the cut flowers sold in the US are sourced from Central and South America as well as Africa and conditions are dismal for workers there.  So I choose fair trade and organic flowers whenever possible.  Here’s ProFlower’s statement regarding their stand on Ethical Labor Standards.

Unfortunately, ProFlowers doesn’t have any organic flowers, so I chose their 8” Foliage Garden, a set of small potted plants in a black zinc container. It’s sustainable, as long as I remember to water it, which is a whole ‘nother story.

My flowers arrived via UPS. I didn’t realize that ProFlowers doesn’t use local florists. My lovely hubby missed the big arrows on two sides that said to keep the box upright, and so I was a bit worried the plant inside had been damaged.  I needn’t have worried, as the plant was held in place with a cardboard brace, and the base of the plants and dirt were held together tightly from hubby accidents with stretch wrap.

My ProFlowers Foliage Garden

I cut away the plastic and was rewarded with a sweet little container of plants. They included a care tag (water, fertilize, sunshine) and a gift note.  I just added a little water and the plants were happy.  The plants are very healthy looking, although the plants I received are not as numerable as the photograph on the ProFlowers site suggests, it’s a nice little arrangement.  I do wish they’d have a ribbon option so that the plant had a more festive appearance upon arrival; it’s a little plain the way it is.

The dish on the left is the advertised arrangement, the one on the right is what I received.

I think perhaps it’s time they update their site to reflect the actual arrangement, but it’s still a sweet little garden that I’m sure we’ll enjoy for years.
