Black Swan on DVD and BluRayIf you like thriller movies, you might want to check out “Black Swan”. This psychological-thriller portrays the beautiful Natalie Portman as Nina Sayers. It is one of the most sought after movies of the year directed by Darren Aronofsky.  It’s available now on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download.

BLACK SWAN starts out as a simple story.  The age-old tale of a ballerina trying to make it in New York City.  When the artistic director decides to replace the prima ballerina in the Swan Lake production, it causes a competition that twists friendships and brings out the dark side of one of the hopefuls.

Directed by innovator Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler), this Best Picture nominated film boasts a wealth of talent including Portman (Closer), in the performance of her career, as well as Mila Kunis (Date Night), Winona Ryder (Girl, Interrupted) and Vincent Cassel (Ocean’s Twelve). In the film that Daily Variety hailed as “…wicked, sexy and ultimately devastating… fascinating,”

After watching it, I will say that it totally blew my mind. It’s disturbing and creepy, but it’s terrific at the same time. The cinematography was amazing; the shots were quite raw and only a little dizzying at times. But it’s perfect! The purpose of the shots is for the viewers to feel the same emotions as Nina Sayers, and they really did it quite amazing and really effective way. They were able to maintain a suspenseful tone for the entire movie and the director did quite an excellent job.

Natalie Portman brought an outstanding and award-winning performance in this movie. Her eyes were indeed her strongest suit in portraying her role. She performed quite effectively in transmitting to the viewers her emotions. Did she do all the dancing?  In my mind it doesn’t really matter and it’s too bad the controversy about it is muddling up the brilliance of her performance.

In all honesty, I put off watching this movie because I don’t like scary movies.  But this movie just left me breathless from the moment I started playing it. So, KUDOS to the directors, casts, cinematographers and the rest of the people who made Black Swan an award-winning movie.
