Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution - working to make kids and their families healthier
I love Jamie Oliver, aka The Naked Chef, and what he did for children in the UK and in the US. You may have seen his show last year where he took over the lunch system in Huntington, West Virginia. It was phenomenal. He’s doing it again and this time he’s been working in Los Angeles. His question and reason behind his revolution is easy…Why can’t we do better for our kids?

School Lunches can be healthy, nutritious and delicious

He’s still asking the tough question of why the quality of our school meals are so poor and this time he asks Los Angeles parents to support the quest of improving our kids’ health. In this series he’ll cook with LA teens and use a science class to get them thinking about what’s in their food. He’ll teach them that they’re at risk for obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and more because of the processed foods they’re eating. He also shows them how fast food and industrial ingredients add no benefits to their health.

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution is simple, our kids need to grow up on a diet of fresh and wholesome food. Kids need to know what they’re eating and where it comes from. In the first season, most of the six year olds asked could not identify fresh vegetables including tomatoes! That’s sad. Without the knowledge of what good and healthy food is, our kids are facing a very tough and unhealthy future.

Season 2 Preview (Video)

I credit Jamie and season one of his show for getting me over my fast food addiction. Seeing what I was really eating made me change my ways and I’m now eating more fresh fruits and vegetables than ever and I’m down almost 20 pounds without really trying. Knowing what’s in the food I eat has made a profound affect on me and I have to assume that as more people become aware, their eating habits will change as well. We went from daily fast food drive through meals to simple fruits and vegetables at our home and we couldn’t be eating better – it’s delicious.

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution premieres Tuesday April 12 8/7c on ABC.
