I‘ve been to Walt Disney World’s Epcot Theme Park (previously known as Epcot Center) in Orlando many times, but in all the years I’ve gone, I’ve never been during the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival, until now. I had the opportunity to to immerse myself in all the color, beauty, and scents the festival had to offer this last week. From the moment you walk in the gate and smell the strawberry scented Marigolds, you know it’s going to be an amazing day!
The Festival is presented by HGTV so there are tons of tie-ins with the channel (which happens to be the channel I’m addicted to!). Beyond the amazing Disney character topiaries (75 in all), and even more fabulous flower displays and gardens than usual, there is live music and special presentations. Many of my favorite HGTV designers will be on hand in the coming weeks. I would have LOVED to meet Lisa LaPorta or Taniya Nayak – they’re my two favorite HGTV stars, but Lisa was there before I arrived and Taniya after. Have a favorite HGTV personality? Check the HGTV Designer Epcot Presentation schedule to see when your favorite is speaking.
I think our favorite part of the Festival was a walk through the “lift and sniff” Fragrance Garden near the France Pavilion. Small container gardens are filled with the flora used to make each Guerlain perfume and the finished scent can be enjoyed from the “lift and sniff” placard. If you find one you love (we loved the men’s cologne), you can purchase it inside at the Guerlain store. It’s amazing to smell the growing plants and then detect that scent in the finished perfume. It’s here that we also discovered Princess Sleeping Beauty posing for photos and signing autographs.
This years’ festival began on March 2 and goes until May 15, 2011. Plan to attend soon, it’s a fabulous experience for the eye and the nose!

Disclosure: I attended the Disney Social Media Mom’s Celebration Event at WDW – I was not compensated for my time and I paid for my own travel and conference, but the conference is at a reduced rate.
