“Borders are being replaced with connections.” That’s what Matt Jacobson shared at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration held at Walt Disney World. He went on to say that Facebook is becoming part of our lives, and as the video below shows (which Matt opened his session with), maybe it’s a little too integrated.
Matt knows a lot about Social Media. Matt was the 8th FB employee and he’s seen a lot of changes in that time. When the web began it was about browsing and then we became searchers. Now it’s about discovering.
The web is moving a an incredibly fast pace and it’s up to us to keep informed about privacy and security. That includes knowing what our kids are up to online. While Facebook’s minimum age is 13, there’s no real-world way for them to police that. It’s up to parent’s to keep kids safe online.

Four steps to success on Facebook
- Create a Facebook page and use the Facebook Notes Tool to import your blog feed
- Integrate Social Plugins on your blog
- Advertise on Facebook to reach your targeted audience
- Use insights (available on Fan pages) to better understand your audience
Matt closed out his session by suggesting that members keep their friends and family separate from their business accounts. Even the founder of FB, Mark Zuckerberg, has had to do the same. This allows you to target your posts to your audience.
