Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion for hands, face, and body

Skin MD Natural Lotion is a new shielding lotion for hands, face and body said to keep moisture in, while rebuilding the outer layer of skin to help protect it from the harmful chemicals we subject it to every day.

Non-greasy, natural ingredients work with the outer layer of skin to shield your skin from damage that dries and weakens it. With Skin MD your skin stays healthier, smoother and retains more moisture.

Two formulas are available – one with SPF-15 and one without.  I love this as 90% of the time I don’t need an SPF and therefore I don’t need the extra exposure to the chemicals.

Skin MD Natural is an Eco-friendly Skin Care ProductWhat I like about Skin MD Natural Lotion

It truly is lightweight, non-greasy, soft fragrance, no added colorant, quick drying, inexpensive ($18 for 2-3 month supply), and SPF-free.  I also love that it’s vegan (no animal products are used in the manufacturing of it) and cruelty-free (it’s not tested on animals).  It’s also manufactured in the United States using 100% solar power – I LOVE that!

What I didn’t like about Skin MD Natural Lotion

It’s not organic, but 93% of the ingredients are from natural sources (there’s no legal definition for “natural” so Skin MD didn’t have to disclose the information – kudos to them for doing so), and possibly fragrance added.  It’s hard to tell by the ingredients, but based on the scent it’s likely added and that’s a problem for me.

My Experience

Skin MD Natural Moisturizer qualitiesI did use the lotion for over a week and during a time when I was doing a lot of paperwork.  I tend to notice the paper pulls the moisture from my hands and some days, they hurt by the end of the day. I used the lotion throughout the day and well into the night and noticed that my hands reacted pretty well.  The lotion was never greasy, so it didn’t slow me down having to wait before I could return to the papers.  But I think because my everyday lotion is organic. and my skin is in pretty fabulous condition because of it, there wasn’t as much work for the Skin MD to do.  I also use organic soap and cleansers so my skin isn’t assaulted by harsh chemicals.  Someone not using organic already would likely really benefit from Skin MD and its healing properties.

I used about a quarter-size dollop at each use.  The average time to rub it in was about 40 seconds.  In that time it went from silky and wet to smooth and dry.  That amount of lotion was enough for my hands and forearms. I generally used another pump for my elbows.  I can definitely feel it on the skin once it’s dry and if you make the mistake of not washing it off before eating with your hands, you’ll taste it as well.

Final Thoughts

While this won’t replace my everyday organic lotion, it’s nice to have in my arsenal for times when I need a little extra protection and a barrier rather than just a moisturizer.  For days when my skin will be exposed to the sun, I’ll likely purchase an additional bottle with SPF-15.  Sun damage ages the skin so quickly and I’d like to stay young looking as long as I can!
