We love bagels, but eating them the same old way every day can get boring. French Toast bagels are fabulous and a nice change from the usual sliced bread variety. Make a double batch and freeze them for mornings when you don’t have time to cook.
Plain or flavored bagels work well, but flavored add another dimension. Cinnamon and raisin are especially good.
- 2 plain bagels, sliced
- ¼ cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ½ tsp vanilla
- 1 tbsp butter
- In a shallow dish, beat the eggs, spices and milk. Place the bagel slices into the mixture to soak for about ½ hour. Turn the bagels once to cover both sides.
- Melt the butter in a large skillet. Fry the bagel slices on both sides until golden.
- Serve immediately with maple syrup or freeze for use later - toast in the toaster or heat at 350 for 10 minutes in the oven to reheat and recrisp.
