Small but fabulous balcony above Downtown Disney World of Disney Store Sign

We decided on Friday to take a trip to Disneyland and we splurged on the Disney Grand Californian Hotel. We’ve stayed at all of the Disney properties in Disneyland as well as many of the Good Neighbor hotels over the last 13 years since our first trip here to celebrate our oldest son’s graduation from 6th grade.  This time it’s to celebrate the almost-graduated college son (he’ll actually graduate in December, we’re celebrating early).

My favorite hotel is the Grand because of the location. Literally adjacent to Disney’s California Adventure the location is perfect for someone like me who has a slight disability.  Returning to the room to nap is a breeze and my family doesn’t think twice about letting me make the journey alone.  Sometimes leaving for a hotel outside of the park is a little scary, especially at night.  You just can’t get any closer than the Grand!  Location isn’t the only reason it’s fabulous.  Oh, and there is a private entrance into Disney’s California Adventure – talk about convenient!

Our room is directly above the World of Disney in Downtown Disney and looks out onto the parking lot tram station and in the distance is the Disneyland train station. The hotel itself is gorgeous, in the Craftsman style, and the rooms are generously sized and the amenities first rate. The two queen beds, each with four down pillows and double-sheeted in crisp white linens, are deliciously comfortable. The room comes complete with an in-room refrigerator, portable crib, robes, keyed safe, and more.  It’s divine!

We have a small balcony furnished with two chairs and a small table. I used the free wifi to work outside today!  With the sliding glass door open we can hear the fountains below, people walking about, the parking tram attendants, the monorail, and more.  With it closed it’s amazingly quiet.  I love the door open – really reminds me I’m right inside the park!  Now, if  only the fireworks were scheduled, we’d have the most amazing view, but alas, no fireworks during our trip this time.

The Grand Cast Members have been fabulous. We’ve interacted with the front desk, bell desk, bellman, and store cast members and all have been professional and caring.  So far it’s perfect!
