What’s good about Horizon’s Organic Chocolate Milk? Besides the fact that it tastes great, it’s the ingredients: Organic Grade A Lowfat Milk, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Cocoa, Organic Vanilla Flavor, DHA Algal Oil, Carrageenan, Salt, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D3. Now I personally can’t vouch for the taste, because it has Vitamin D3 which may be from fish, I won’t drink it and I couldn’t find anything on their site which stated it was vegetarian, so I had to call in my oldest son to taste test it. Bummer, as I was looking forward to it
He’s 24, so a bit older than most “kids” but he loved it. Rich and creamy and full bodied, not like the cheap chocolate flavored milk that’s readily available. I like that it’s organic and that they’ve added DHA Omega-3. The DHA they use is vegetarian and from a sustainable source. I like that. Why add DHA Omega-3? Because it’s thought to help support eye and brain function. Supplementing milk is a good way to get more DHA Omega-3 in a child’s diet when fish isn’t well tolerated.
Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) is a type of Omega-3 fatty acid, a nutrient that has been studied extensively in connection with heart, brain and eye health. Although it is found in most tissues throughout the body, the highest concentrations of DHA are in the brain, nervous system and the retina of the eye, and it helps support normal development in these areas. DHA has also been shown to help promote heart health. – Source https://www.horizondairy.com/#facts
Omega-3 is important no matter what your age, and if drinking it in milk form works for you, then this is the only organic milk produced with DHA Omega-3 added.
If you have a moment, stop by their website. It’s completely adorable. Small children walking around, drinking milk, and laughing. If you have little ones of your own, they’ll love it. It’s so sweet!
