We’ve been home from our week long Getaway to Sedona for a few weeks now. It wasn’t easy leaving because my husband and I both fell in love with the area and its people. We feel very fortunate to have chosen a location that spoke to both of us and our individual needs and one that every day shared new reasons to love it.
Our Getaway to Sedona Summit Resort
We booked a 6- night stay at the Sedona Summit Resort. The resort ended up being on the quiet west end of town which was perfect for us. It allowed us to venture out and explore all day and return to a peaceful place to relax. The weather went from sun to rain, and it even snowed during our trip so it was fantastic experiencing the Sedona area in so many different ways.
While we never got to try out the resort’s pools, one located just steps from our room, we did enjoy watching the weather change from our warm room with electric fireplace and full kitchen. We were also able to make use of the large soaking tub on several occasions when we came “home” cold to the bone from hiking in the cold. We saved a lot of money by making our own food instead of eating out for every meal. The room also had a mini washing machine and dryer so we were able to dry off and get warm before venturing out again and, even more importantly, we can go home with a full suitcase of clean clothes.
What we didn’t realize is that we were booking a room at a time-share resort, something we wouldn’t have done had we realized it. We’ve had bad experiences with spam emails and telephone calls when booking a “room” at what turned out to be a time-share before, and this was no exception. The few times we had any contact with staff, they tried to convert our stay into a purchase. They papered our room with brochures and sent us a “MUST USE NOW” certificate that would take the fee we’d pay off the price – a selling tactic to convince you to make a spur-of-the-moment decision you otherwise probably wouldn’t make. Then hounded us for YEARS afterward by telephone and email (I’m updating this April 2017). While the resort worked great as far as location and amenities (although they did “upgraded” us without asking or telling us to a room with a queen size bed instead of the room we booked that had a king size bed. Had we been asked, we would have chosen the king size bed over the “updated” interior.) We will be choosing a different location on our next trip.
While we were in Sedona for six nights we barely scratched the surface of all that there is to do there. I’ll share some of the fun things we did while we were there in my next post so stay tuned! Plus, we’ll be going on another getaway right here in Union, Washington a few weeks so follow along!
