I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Charmin. I received product samples and a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
This is one of “those” stories. The ones that make your child cringe because he can’t believe you’re telling it again. But every year about this time I am reminded of the great Christmas flood of 2002. What, you didn’t hear about it? Then you weren’t living in our house at the time!
It was just a few days before the holidays and I’d invited a friend from work over to exchange gifts and meet my boys. I frantically cleaned before her arrival so I admit I wasn’t paying much attention to what my boys were doing. They were both older and didn’t need constant monitoring – or so I thought!
About 45 minutes into our very nice visit my youngest son came into the living room to tell me the bathroom was leaking. Huh?!? I had no clue what he was talking about but he insisted I come take a look.
I knew it was bad as soon as I hit the top of the stairs. The telltale dark stain coming out from under the bathroom door gave a hint to the trouble within. But what I didn’t know was that it was so much worse.
I’ll save you the long story but the damage was expensive and extensive. Carpets and carpet pads were pulled back by a flood recovery company uncovering carpet tacks which would cause mayhem and injury for the next 10 days while huge de-humidifiers and fans ran 24/7 trying to dry out the plasterboard, carpets, and furniture. Christmas carols were overshadowed but the insanely loud hum of the machines.
The damage was on two floors of our house and had traveled all the way to the furnace. The dirty toilet water had used the heating ducts to make its way all the way into the garage where it mixed with the heating coil to spread a hot, steamy, porta potty smell throughout the house for days. It also traveled along the walls inside the house to soak the computer room below including the sheet rock and computer peripherals. The computer itself was narrowly missed.
Oh Toilet Clog, Oh Toilet Clog….
So how’d it happen? Toilet paper. Too much of it and a child that didn’t realize the toilet was overflowing for 45 minutes. It was the biggest mess ever and a Christmas we’ve never let our son forget (though I won’t tell you which one it was, but I will mention it wasn’t his only flood…oh the stories I could tell!).
But now there’s a toilet paper with a no-clog promise! That’s right! Guarantee yourself a flood-free Christmas by stocking up on Charmin’s Ultra Soft or Ultra Strong toilet paper. It’s guaranteed to be flushably safe for your drains. In fact, they’re so confident about their product’s ability they guaranteed it. If you experience a clog while Charmin, they’ll return your money. In fact, Roto-Rooter, America’s largest provider of plumbing and drain services, recommends Charmin over any other brand. To cement their choice, they’ve teamed with Charmin this holiday season to remind consumers of the clog-free and septic-safe guarantee that only comes with Charmin.

That’s what we like to use. It’s great stuff!
I love your video. I have a potential toilet clogger in my household. We just wrapped up potty training a few months ago but I don’t dare let him wipe his bum yet. I don’t want an incident like you had in your bathroom. Here are a few of my own holiday pet peeves when it comes to the bathroom.
Oh my goodness, that sounds just awful. I can definitely see why you’re banking on the Charmin now!
It was the WORST. I was mortified and my friend thought it was hilarious. 🙂
No wonder you take your paper so seriously. I would too!
The same kid flooded the MGM Grand Hotel in Vegas (we were on the floor about the casino – they woke us up by pounding on the door at 4am…loads of fun) and he flooded the Disney Boardwalk in WDW in a room just above the bakery. Yep…Clogs-R-Us
Oh no. One year we had a nasty clog and I do not even want to finish the story! lol. Thank goodness for Charmin!
Oh no! It is so hard when house stuff goes wrong during the holidays or a big event. On my high school graduation, we lost power from a bad storm and ended up having the basement flood, which meant getting stuff out of there before it was damaged. One Christmas we also had our oven temperature knob break without knowing so instead of being at 250 it was at like 500. Everything came out horribly burnt and the pizza man was called.
Oh my! But it’s funny now….years later…right? 🙂
A clog free Christmas sounds great! I don’t think we’ve had one yet! LOL Seriously, we can use this!
Wow, what a story! I wouldn’t let my child live that down either. So glad your computer was spared!
Gotta love Charmin! We only use it in our house….
