Easy DIY Halloween Crafts for Kids

I love Halloween! Every year I get so excited to pull out my decorations, and now that my son is old enough to understand what’s going on things have gotten even more exciting. This week we put out my collection of pumpkins, skeletons and spiderwebs and he couldn’t stop talking about it. I want to incorporate as much spooky fun as I can this month, leading up to the big Halloween night. We’ve already started some fun and easy DIY Halloween crafts for kids and decorations, so I thought I’d share some of my ideas.

MARSHMALLOW GHOSTS

Easy DIY Halloween Crafts for Kids - Marshmallow Ghosts

I’m all for any Halloween crafts that involve a treat too, so this was a good one. I got the idea from Allie at No Time for Flashcards and put my own spin on it. I drew a ghost shape with a white crayon on black construction paper, then helped my three-year-old put a glue dot on marshmallows one by one and stick each one along the outline. (We definitely ate a few marshmallows during our crafting, but he didn’t go as hog wild as I thought he would — and we talked about only eating marshmallows without glue on them. 😉 ) If you’re not into the sugar consumption, you could easily do this craft with cotton balls instead.

HALLOWEEN-GRAMS

This might be one of the easiest Halloween crafts ever. We like to put together little holiday packages for our friends and family (I’m a huge fanatic of snail mail, as you can see from my other blog) and this year it was a piece of cake. I stamped my preschooler’s foot in white paint, then had him make footprints on the solid side of some double-sided American Crafts Halloween scrapbook paper — because, if you hadn’t noticed, an upside-down footprint looks a lot like a ghost! We let them dry, drew in a ghost face, decorated around the “ghost” and put them in an envelope with Halloween confetti. Our Halloween-Grams been a hit, and it’s kind of cool to keep one for myself as a memento of his little foot.

    • My son definitely loved it — eating your craft as you go is a bonus, I think 😉
