Ziplist recently published a quarterly state-of-the-kitchen report and there were several things that surprised me. First, the list of the Top Grill Recipes for Summer 2013 included several recipes from home cooks like myself with less than perfect photos. That tells me that when searching for a recipe, people look at the ingredients and ratings from other users. It’s good to know that a pretty photo isn’t the only way to get a recipe noticed and gives me hope one of my recipes could become popular (though I’m working on improving my photos).

Food Trends – Summer 2013

Another thing I found interesting was the list of the top 10 items added to ZipList users’ Shopping list included blueberries in the number three spot. While I’m a huge blueberry fan, I thought that because of their premium pricing it was a fruit most people bypassed at the grocery story. Also garlic ranks above bread and onions before butter. I wasn’t surprised to see eggs and milk in the number 1 and 2 position and I was thrilled to see fruit in three spots on the list.

I’ve noticed through my prolific pinning that healthier recipes are taking over and ZipList has found the same on their site. Paleo is hot as is gluten-free. They found Paleo’s are saving dessert recipes at a higher rate than savory with Paleo Peanut Butter Cookies and Paleo Cinnamon “Oatmeal” Raisin Cookies in the top two spots.

Check out the quarterly state-of-the-kitchen report  – it’s pretty interesting to see what others are saving and making.
