I participated in a travel California familiarization trip including the Holman Ranch in Carmel, CA. My accommodations and meals were provided. All opinions are my own.
Travel California – Holman Ranch
Holman Ranch’s slogan is “Where the past is always present,” and I think that perfectly encapsulates the feeling you get when visiting the ranch. The ranch is situated on 400 acres at the base of the Santa Lucia Mountains on California’s Monterey peninsula near the beautiful town of Carmel. The property features rolling, windswept hills, meadows and groves of trees; it is truly a gorgeous sight.
Travel California – Holman Ranch Hacienda
[new_royalslider id=”6″]The centerpiece of the ranch is the hacienda sometimes called “Casa Escondida,” the hidden house, humbly built in 1928, it was often used as a gentleman’s retreat and hunting lodge throughout much of its life. The lodge features beautiful Carmel stone from the area as well as hand carved wood. After all these years the hacienda has been painstakingly updated with all the modern conveniences, but not at the cost of the overall beautifully rustic feel of the building. Much of the original stone remains, both in the walls and the floors, and many of the roof beams are also original.
When it came time to replace the roof in the courtyard they literally pulled them all carefully off and then replaced them one by one in order, only losing around half a dozen in the process. I think it’s that kind of difference that really makes Holman Ranch impressive, they have a strong commitment to their products and services, but never at the cost of maintaining their historic roots.
Travel California – Holman Ranch Guest Rooms
The ranch has ten overnight rooms available, each decorated to reflect a Hollywood celebrity who was known to have stayed at the ranch. We were booked in room eight, the Theda Bara room. The rooms are generously sized, many featuring two beds. The bed and linens were quite comfy, and the towels are very soft. The bathroom nicely tiled and also a good size has two sinks, one in the bathroom and one outside, which was very convenient in the morning. Outside each room are a couple of rocking chairs and a side table for relaxing on the porch and enjoying the sights with a glass of Holman Ranch Vineyard wine.
All in all my time at the ranch was wonderful and I cannot say enough good things about it. A beautiful location, delicious wines, and friendly staff. If you are planning an event, or even just looking for some tasty wine, I highly recommend Holman Ranch.
