I find watching video tutorials makes crocheting easier. So many of them that are available online were created by wonderful and generous crafters who share their expertise with others by the gift of their free videos. One of my favorite crochet video masters is the Crochet Geek, aka Teresa Richardson. Her videos are well shot, easy to understand, and she uses slow motion and voice over to show any intricate or difficult stitches.
Free Adult Hat Pattern: Crochet Kingston Cap
This free adult hat pattern is one of Crochet Geek’s most popular patterns. It’s a nice hat that can be easily sized from children’s to adults and with as much slouch as you like. I’ve done the hat in a single color but it’d be quite easy to use multi-colors to make a beautiful striped pattern or with a variegated yarn. Use a cotton yarn for summer, a 4-ply for spring, or a wool for winter (you may need to change your hook size – check your gauge).
The hat is worked in double crochet shells and finished with a single crochet for the band. There are no seams and therefore no seaming or sewing to finish with the exception of weaving in the tail. I’m afraid my photos don’t do the hat justice – it’s really adorable.

I’ll be making some more of these cute hats soon. I love the pattern and I love that I can go back to the video anytime to make another.
That’s it! After seeing this, I am absolutely getting back to crocheting and knotting! O’ve put away so many half-finished projects, but THIS one is getting done- and I love that purple.
I’ve got so many projects I’ve finished but haven’t put up yet…it’s much more fun making them than blogging about them. ADDICTED! 🙂
I think it is so cute! I love to crochet/knit gifts like this during the summer as gifts or for our church’s homeless drive. I have enough yarn to make (I hope) and will give it a try. I am not crazy about seams yet so this is the hat for me! Is there a matching scarf? Thanks!
There isn’t a pattern for a matching scarf but it’d be easy to work up one in the same pattern. Let me know how it goes!
