Jennifer Garner in "BUTTER" a dark, satirical comedy.

BUTTER is one of those films that surprised me. I watched it without reading the synopsis first, so I had no idea what I was about to see. I did know that the film stared some pretty big actors, including Hugh Jackman whom I actually got the chance to meet during his [amazon_link id=”B005ZKYXZI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]REAL STEEL[/amazon_link] promotion tour. I was impressed with his humorous side, something I’d never really seen him do in film, so when I saw he was included in the cast of  BUTTER I made the assumption that it wasn’t a comedy.  I was wrong.

Blu-Ray Reviews

BUTTER is a dark and edgy comedy along the lines of [amazon_link id=”0780628306″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]DROP DEAD GORGEOUS[/amazon_link] and [amazon_link id=”B009VY00OC” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]BEST IN SHOW[/amazon_link]. The film is set in Iowa where butter carving is an art. But the midland isn’t all pure cream and butter. There’s scandal of course and beneath it is greed, blackmail, and more.

BUTTER Movie Clip: The Sacrifice

The standout in the film Yara Shahidi who plays 10-year old Destiny, an African-American foster child who’s hoping to finally find a place of her own when she’s placed yet again in a new home. This time it’s with Ethan and Jill (Rob Corddry and Alicia Silverstone) a middle-American white couple who see through the shenanigans of the long-reigning champion butter sculptor’s obsessive wife played by Jennifer Garner to help propel their new little artist to the top.

Hugh Jackman plays Garner’s ex-boyfriend who’s coerced into participating in sabotaging the winner to pay back some sexual favors. He plays the bumbling character with charm.

If you’re a fan of satirical comedy as I am, this is the film you want to find in your stocking on Christmas Day!
