My first experience with renting from Redbox - so simple!

My first experience with renting from Redbox – so simple!

I am probably the last person to give Redbox a try. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because I thought it cost as much as a downloaded movie. Or maybe I’m just too lazy to return it. Who knows why, but now that I finally have rented by first movie from them, I know it won’t be my last.

Because I knew nothing about Redbox except that they were in the entrance of just about every store I shop at, I went online before venturing out. I’m glad I did because I found out that I could register right from my computer and even better, I could reserve and pay for the movie I wanted to see. I also discovered that I could return the movie to any Redbox location. That’s a definite must for me. The entire registration, reservation, and payment process took less than five minutes – seriously, that’s easy!

I signed up for their refer-a-friend program too so any time someone new signs up through my link, I get a free rental! I love that. Oh, and in case you’re new to Redbox too, they don’t  just rent the newest movies, they also rent games. Plus they have an online site that’s got a lot of great movie information plus a subscription newsletter that sends information on upcoming movies right to your inbox.

Me and my first Redbox Film - "Katy Perry: Part of Me"

Me and my first Redbox Film – “Katy Perry: Part of Me”

I reserved “Katy Perry: Part of Me” online and I picked it up the next day. All I had to do was swipe the debit card I used to reserve it at the kiosk inside of the Walmart I had it reserved at and within about 2 minutes my film was in my hand. The best part? It cost less than $2 to rent the film. That’s cheaper than downloading it and even better, my viewing quality isn’t at the whim of how many of my neighbors are also streaming video at the same time. It’s getting to the point that I can’t stream during the evening hours because the more people between the cable company and me, the worse my download it. With a DVD, that’s never a problem.

While I was at the store I picked up a few goodies for our girls night in – my budget was $25 and I did a pretty good job of sticking to it. First I thought of buying something “healthy” and then I thought about Katy Perry and the first thing that came to mind was sweets and candy. So in Katy’s honor, I headed to the popcorn aisle and picked up an enormous bag of kettle corn. To that I added Peanut Butter M&M’s and Peanut M&Ms. Then I reached for a six pack of Diet Coke.

As I headed to the check stand I couldn’t help but notice some other items in the store that reminded me of Katy. First a lipstick pink bowl which I bought because I thought it was cute and would be fun for the popcorn – plus at $2, it was one I wouldn’t mind losing if I took it to a friend’s house. Next I ran into some Hello Kitty products that reminds me of Katy’s fun side and some glittering silver flat shoes that would have been mine if they’d had my size in stock.

I reached the checkout stand and was confronted by some pink drinks – a must have for a Katy Perry party! I settled on the new Barefoot Pink Moscato and with that our party was complete. I headed home with my movie and goodies and got ready for the girls.

The ladies arrived – my mom and my future daughter-in-law – and we settled in with our Diet Cokes and sweet popcorn mix and sat for the next hour or so learning more about the superstar and her life. I must say, there were some tears, some laughs, and lots of smiles.
