I participated in the #BagItForward movement this week and you can too! Bag it Forward is national movement to give back to teachers and children by picking up extra supplies while you’re shopping for your own children. Then drop them off at your local charitable organization to help others.
Teacher’s Gift Ideas
My niece is a 4th/5th grade teacher and just about to start her 3rd year as a full-fledge educator. I’m really excited for her, she’s made to be a teacher, so I chose her for my BagItForward.org donation.
I headed to my local Walmart to pick up some of the quality school supplies that are luxuries for teachers; but not until I first asked her what type of gifts teacher’s really like receiving. On her list were white board markers, books, and a paper cutter. I only got one of the things on her list, the rest were splurges that I think she’ll love and didn’t think to ask for.

Shopping was bit crazy since so many kids in our area are heading back to school this week. It was fun to be back in the back-to-school aisle though. My youngest son graduated from college almost 2 years ago; however, for 18-years I happily shopped the back-to-school sales with my kids. This shopping trip brought back so many sweet memories.
Elmer’s® 1st Day™ App
Walmart split up the back-to-school area to help control the crowds – smart move! I found the 1st Day™ App from Elmer’s® standee with the QRC code to download the free app in the back of the store. The standee also holds the school supply lists and was attached to a row of bins holding basic school supplies.
I’d already downloaded the Elmer’s® 1st Day™ App on my iPod Touch before I went shopping. It’s a unique mobile app that encourages you to snap a photo of your child on his/her first day of school. It safely stores the photos online and you can add to them yearly. Teachers can use the app to keep a visual record of his/her students or to share school projects as well. The app allows you to add captions, quotes and to organize the photos by subject, date, or album. It also allows you to share your photos and slideshows.
You can also download and access the Elmer’s® 1st Day™ App online. While you’re there, check out the current sweepstakes and you’ll find information about the Kids in Need Foundation. For every photo uploaded with the app, Kids in Need will receive a product donation from Elmer’s® (up to 200K products!) – save your memories and help make memories for others!
I ended up in the crafts aisle and found everything I needed for Katie’s gift. I’d visited the Elmer’s® product site online so I knew what I was looking for – various adhesives, glues, and that paper cutter she wanted and it’s pink! I added some fabulous Elmer’s Gel Pens in a rainbow of colors that I’m sure will be used quite often in the classroom – I love that! I also picked up some decorative scissors for crafting in class and perhaps to make some of her own note cards as well.
I found a fabulous purple tin to place all of the gifts in and which becomes a gift in itself. It can be used in the classroom in so many ways – I think she’ll really enjoy it. I can see it filled with books, craft supplies, and more.
I can’t wait to give Katie the gift but like many teachers about to start the school year, she and her husband snuck off for a weekend away. I wanted to get this posted so you had a chance to learn about the app and get it installed since so many schools have or are starting this week. I’ll update the post later this week with Katie’s photo. I can’t wait until she sees it!
