I have lost and gained so many pounds in the last 30 years and one thing every loss has in common is a food journal. I’ve done printable food journals, downloaded free food journals, used online food journals, and even posted my Weight Watchers food journals here on my blog. I’ve had success with every type of journal; but my failure comes when I stop writing down ever thing I eat. I’m always thinking about food quality and portion sizes, but actually writing it down helps me stay on track.
One of my biggest health challenges is diet soda. It’s a habit I’ve had since the early 1970’s and it’s my dirty little nutritional secret. Going vegetarian and organic was easy. Heck, even quitting smoking was easy in comparison to getting off the artificial sugar. Soda is the only “food” I ingest with the nasty stuff in it. I know there are many serious health issues associated with artificial sweeteners and they’ve been found to contribute to obesity, so my goal is to journal just how many diet sodas I’m drinking a day. Armed with that info, I want to redirect the money I’m wasting on these non-nutritional drinks into something else. I shudder to think of the huge amount of my food budget that goes for drinks; especially when water is practically free.
So that’s my nutritional challenge – do you have one? Are you looking to add more fruits and vegetables? Perhaps journaling can help you break a bad habit or create a healthy one.

I have kept a food journal before, but sometimes it gets challenging!
It’s easy to start and hard to keep up for sure!
I have never had a problem with soda, it always left a nasty texture on my teeth but I am an emotional eater and have a sugar problem in general. I have seen when I write down what I’m eating that my sugar intake is less.
I dont keep a food journal but it’s a good idea.
I do off and on – more off than on 🙂
I used to keep a food journal, but I haven’t done it in so long. My downfall is sugar. I love to bake and Pinterest and baking blogs don’t help! I’m trying to cut out all the sugar in my diet, but I already slacked off this week.
Sugar is another hard habit to break for sure! And yes, Pinterest is a dangerous place to visit – especially hungry! 🙂
I need to do the exact same thing with my diet soda, but it’s sooooo hard to do. Whenever I run out, I find myself back at the store again….
I have a Coke habit too. I may give this a try.
Mine’s diet drinks – Coke, Pepsi, Sprite…it’s a terrible habit!
It is hard! I used a calculator program when I quit smoking which showed me how much money I was saving by not smoking….I’m hoping this will work the same way (she says as she takes the last sip of her Diet Pepsi and starts looking for another – evil stuff!).
Thanks for the link up 🙂
Any time my friend! I visited your post but didn’t comment…sorry! I’m trying to focus on getting caught up (it’s not working).
