Lady and the Tramp new on DVD and Blu-Ray 2/7/12The Diamond Edition of Lady and the Tramp was released today (2/7/12) and while the film has been released before, this is its first time on Blu-Ray.  So is it worth it?  Yes!  If for nothing else but the special feature, “Diane Disney Miller: Remembering Dad.”  It’s a special look at Walt and the building of Disneyland by his daughter.  We get a look inside his private apartment above the Firehouse at Disneyland, a place I’ve dreamed about seeing some day.  It’s beautifully decorated in the Victorian style with cranberry and Fenton glass pieces, many of which Walt and his wife collected on their travels.

The features also provides plenty of photos and film clips of Walt during the building of Disneyland and lots of inside information about growing up with the famous man.  If anything, this inside look made me love the franchise of Disney even more.  Oh, and there’s a fabulous movie attached to the bonus as well. 🙂

The film sparkles in Blu-Ray – crisp and clean and the hand-painted backgrounds really get their due and look phenomenal.  I’ve had the pleasure of seeing some of the original backgrounds from other Disney movies on a tour of the Disney Archives, and I can tell you they’re simply stunning in person and until Blu-ray, they just weren’t being highlighted as well as they could be.

So should you purchase the new version if you have the DVD or VHS?  I say yes!  There are enough new bonus features and it looks phenomenal to cover the cost of the purchase.
